Everyone Rides The Carousel
Erik Erickson;
Erick Erickson's chief contributions to personality theory is his emphasis on the ego. Erickson's belief: The ego is the center of personality & responsible for a unified sense of self. Erik Erickson is also known for his eight stages of psychosocial development in which individuals progress. Everyone rides the carousel is an animated depiction of the eight psychosocial stages of development.
1. Trust VS Mistrust- if needs are dependably met infants establish a sense of trust.
2. Autonomy VS Shame/Doubt - Toddlers learn independence; doing things for themselves or they doubt their abilities.
3. Initiative VS Guilt – Preschoolers learn to initiate tasks and carry out plans or they feel guilty about efforts to be independent.
4. Industry VS Inferiority - Children learn pleasure from applying themselves or they feel inferior.
5. Identity VS Confusion – Teenagers work at refining a sense of self by testing roles and then integrating them to form a single identity, or they become confused about who they are.
6. Intimacy VS Isolation – Young adults struggle to form close relationships and gain the capacity for intimate love or they feel socially isolated.
7. Generativity VS Stagnation – The middle aged discover a sense of contributing to the world, usually through family or work, or they may feel a lack of purpose.
8. Integrity VS Despair – When reflecting on his or her life the older adult may feel a sense of satisfaction or failure.
My idea: Our shadows are completely hidden from the conscious realm. Whether you apply concepts from Sigmund Freud, (the Id, Ego, or super ego), Erik Erickson (8 stages of development) or Adler (Birth Order), all theories suggest unconscious behavior stem from indoctrinated experiences. When you accept a set of beliefs uncritically, you are doing so subconsciously. Your acceptance to the idea could pose as a result of previously conditioned expectations, subtle indications of the ID, Birth Order or the beginning stages of development. My question would be, how does one subconsciously accept an idea, when ideally you are aware of endless solutions?
~I took interest in the id, ego & super ego as it pertains to "the discovery of self-realization", concepts that lure the imagination into reality. ~ Martina Marie Smith ~
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of life & death. Romans 8
